The lineup is set for Sunday's AdvoCare 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway and Tony Stewart turned the fastest lap in qualifying on Friday evening. For Stewart it is his first pole of 2012 and his 14th career pole.
He was the third to last car out on the track in the session and turned a lap of 186.121 mph to knock Greg Biffle off the pole.
Martin Truex Jr. was the fastest car in practice and was the last to take the track in qualifying but only was able to turn the 28th fastest lap. He ran the bottom of the track when most cars including Stewart ran up near the wall.
Biffle will start next to Stewart on the front row followed by Kyle Busch in third, Matt Kenseth fourth, Jeff Gordon fifth, Mark Martin sixth, Denny Hamlin seventh, Jimmie Johnson eighth, Joey Logano ninth, and Marcos Ambrose tenth.
Kasey Kahne who holds the first wild card position will roll off 11th and Carl Edwards who is in desperate need of a win to make the Chase starts 12th. Another wild card driver, Ryan Newman will start from 17th.
Two drivers that will be disappointed with their starting spots are Clint Bowyer and Dale Earnhardt Jr. They will roll off in 30th and 35th respectively.
The eight drivers that were not locked into the race that qualified with speed were David Stremme, Trevor Bayne, Jason Leffler, Scott Speed, Joe Nemechek, Reed Sorenson, Scott Riggs, and J.J. Yeley. Four drivers failed to make the field. They were Michael McDowell, Josh Wise, Stephen Leicht, and Mike Bliss.
