The current GP2 Champion Davide Valecchi said on Friday that he thinks he is the favorite to get a ride with Lotus F1 Team in 2013 if the team decides to part ways with Romain Grosjean. Grosjean had three podiums and finished eighth in the points for Lotus in 2012 but was at the center of a lot of erratic driving that upset some other drivers.

Lotus was expected to make a decision about whether to keep Grosjean in the seat this past week but decided to take more time to think over the important decision.

"I don't wish anything bad against Grosjean," Valsecchi told Autosprint magazine. "But if he's not there then I see myself as the favorite. "It's perhaps too early to talk about it. My goal is to get into Formula One and then prove that I deserved the chance."

If the 25-year old Valsecchi is given the ride then he will be the only Italian driver in Formula One in 2013. Lotus has already renewed Kimi Raikkonen's contract for the 2013 season.
