Phoenix Racing owner James Finch is just a regular guy who loves racing. That's what keeps Finch and his Phoenix Racing team coming back to the track every week. There was speculation that Finch may not run in the 2013 season due to the costs of a new race car. Those speculations are now gone.
Finch was on Sirius NASCAR radio on Friday morning and said that he will run "at least 18 to 24 races" with the hope of running the full schedule. Finch says he will run the first five or six races and see where the team is and make the decision then on whether the team will run the full schedule.
As reported earlier in the month, Regan Smith will run for the team at Daytona and AJ Allmendinger will run the car sometimes as well. No word on whether Smith will run the car more than just Daytona but Finch did say the team will have sponsorship during Speedweeks. He also said the team has sponsorship for the race at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway in March.
Finch also said the team will run the season opening NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Daytona International Speedway and will run all the Super Speedway races in the series this season. Finch won the July NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Daytona with driver Kurt Busch. Busch appears to be the front-runner to drive the #1 Chevrolet in the February race, as Finch indicated he would love to have him as a driver.
Finch also kept open the possibility of running a few more Nationwide races this season if the right opportunity comes along.Tags: AJ Allmendinger, Daytona International Speedway, james finch, Kurt Busch, Motorsports, NASCAR, NASCAR Nationwide Series, phoenix racing, Regan Smith
