The Carlyle Group finished its purchase of DuPont on Monday to the tune of $4.9 million and announced that the company will still sponsor Jeff Gordon's Hendrick Motorsports No. 24 Chevrolet in 2013. The company name on the car will not be DuPont though and will read Axalta Coating Systems instead.
"We may have a new name on the No. 24 Chevrolet SS in 2013, but it's the same core group that I've enjoyed working with for more than 20 years," said Gordon. "We've had success together on and off the track. We plan to carry that success into our third decade."
In the 2012 season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway Gordon scored his 87th career win and had a special 20th anniversary with DuPont paint scheme on the car. Gordon won his 1995, 1997, 1998, and 2001 championships with DuPont as the primary sponsor on the car.
Axalta Coating Systems will be the primary sponsor on Gordon's No. 24 for 14 races in the 2013 season with the first race coming at Texas Motor Speedway in April. The company will also be on the car at the season finale again and since the current contract with Hendrick Motorsports and Gordon ends after this season, it will be interesting to see if a new deal is signed or if that will be the last race for the longstanding partnership.Tags: Axalta Coating Systems, Carlyle Group, DuPont, Hendrick Motorsports, Jeff Gordon, Motorsports
