NASCAR has always been a sport that gives back to race fans and the community. When the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series heads into the Daytona International Speedway for the running of the 55th Daytona 500, Swan Racing will give an amazing tribute to the 26 victims who lost their life at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.
Swan Racing, who will have Michael Waltrip drive their car at Daytona, announced that the team will change their number for the weekend to 26, and will honor the victims, their families and everyone involved in the tragedy by a call to action feature on the car for the Super Bowl of Stock Car racing, and encourage fans to text 80888 to make ten dollar donations.
In addition to Swan Racing, all three Michael Waltrip Racing cars will have text Newtown to 80888 to donate on their cars. The Sandy Hook School Support Fund, established jointly by United Way of Western Connecticut and Newtown Savings Bank, supports the healing process for the broader Newtown community.
Michael Waltrip confirmed that all three of his cars will have support Newtown by texting 80888 logo's for Daytona and Brian France and his wife Ann have donated $50k to the foundation which will be matched by the NASCAR Foundation.
It is a wonderful gesture by all which is expected from the NASCAR community.
